The Mother of Imām al-Bukhārī

Imām al-Bukhārī’s father died whilst he was an infant and was thus raised by his mother. At the age of 12, he became blind. Despite the efforts of many doctors within that period, none of the treatment would be enough to restore his eyesight. His mother however, described as a righteous woman of impeccable character, made excessive Du’ā continuously to Allāh for the restoration of his sight.

Allāh سبحانه و تعالى accepted her ʾAdʿiyah & one night in her dream, she was visited by ʾIbrāhīm (عليه السلام) who told her, “O you, Allāh has returned your son’s eyesight because of your abundant tears and Du’ā.” In the morning when Imām al-Bukhārī woke up, his eyesight was fully restored by the will of Allāh. This happened at the age of 16, the same age he began compiling his Ṣaḥīḥ. What’s amazing, is that during the four years he was blind, he memorised 500,000 Aḥādīth through his mother because she would read them to him until he memorised it.

Through the immense love, care, & guidance of the mother of Imām al-Bukhārī رحمه الله, we were gifted with the most authentic book after the book of Allāh, Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī.

May Allāh have mercy upon her, reward her abundantly, & reunite her with her son in the highest ranks of Jannah al-Firdous.

All praise is due to Allāh, may His peace & blessings be upon our final Prophet Muḥammad, his family, his companions, & all those who follow him in guidance.
