Shaykh Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wādiʿī’s advice to the Muslims in the West

Muqbil ibn Hādī ibn Muqbil ibn Qā’idah al-Ḥamdānī al-Wādiʿī al-Khallālī رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ (d. 1422/2001), known simply as Shaykh Muqbil, was one of the most influential Muslim scholars to emerge from Yemen within recent times. He was a Muḥaddith & founder of the late Markaz “Dār al-Ḥadīth“, which was based in Dammāj, Yemen, accumulating many students from various different parts of the world.

Within a taped recording of the Shaykh, he gives very sincere & fundamental advice towards the Muslims living in the West; what & how they should study, & how it a must to strive & learn the religion of Islām. Herein, we’ll be looking into this taped recording, hoping to extract benefits & to act upon what’s been mentioned.

Shaykh Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wādiʿī رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ said: “We advise our brothers for the sake of Allāh in the West that they do not busy themselves with Za’ṭān nor with Faltān, and that they pursue beneficial knowledge, memorising the Book of Allāh, studying al-Muṣṭalaḥ al-Ḥadīth, studying the books of the Sunnah, and learning the Arabic language. For indeed, Arabic has become fought against in it’s country (i.e., the West), (then) the non-Arabs arose in serving this religion.

Imām al-Bukhārī was from the non-Arabs! Imām Abū Dāwūd, likewise, was from the non-Arabs! Imām at-Tirmidhī was from the non-Arabs! Imām an-Nasā’ī was from the non-Arabs! Imām ibn Mājah was from the non-Arabs! And likewise Imām ad-Dārimī as-Samarqandī, al-Hākim an-Nishāpurī, al-Bayhaqī, and many other scholars were from the non-Arabs!

Indeed, the non-Arabs arose in serving this religion and in serving the narrations of The Messenger of Allāh , and also in serving the Arabic language and in serving Islāmic jurisprudence. Many of the Muslim Arab youth turn to music, football, and games; they (unfortunately) turn away from beneficial knowledge. It is hoped that the statement of Allāh عز و جل is actualised amongst you:

وَإِن تَتَوَلَّوۡاْ يَسۡتَبۡدِلۡ قَوۡمًا غَيۡرَكُمۡ
And if you turn away, He will exchange you for some other people
– Sūrah Muḥammad, ʾĀyah 38

And (then) you will be, if Allāh wills, reviving the Sunnah of The Messenger of Allāh .”

May Allāh have abundant mercy upon Shaykh Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wādiʿī, reward him for his contributions to the religion of Islām, & allow him to enter Jannah behind The Prophet ﷺ.

All praise is due to Allāh, may His peace & blessings be upon our final Prophet Muḥammad, his family, his companions, & all those who follow him in guidance.
