Do we send salutations upon The Prophet ﷺ during the Jumuʿah Khuṭbah?

It is known that during the Jumuʿah Khuṭbah, it is not permissible for one to speak during it or give attention to anything other than it as commanded by The Prophet ﷺ in numerous Aḥādīth, which will be mentioned below. This may lead one to the question, “What do I do if the Khaṭīb sends salutations upon The Prophetduring the Khuṭbah?” — Shaykh Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wādiʿī رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ (d. 1422 AH/2001 CE) explains:

The Messenger said: ‘Whoever says to his brother ‘Be quiet’ then there is no Jumuʿah for him.’ [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī #934], and The Messenger also said: ‘Whoever speaks and the Imām is delivering the Khuṭbah, has no Jumuʿah.’ [Bulūgh al-Marām #363]. So it is obligatory to remain silent during the Khuṭbah. There is a difference of opinion in regards to supplicating for The Prophet (during the Khuṭbah) because The Messenger said: ‘The miser is the one in whose presence I am mentioned but he does not supplicate for me.’ [Riyāḍ aṣ-Ṣāliḥīn #1403], and he also said: ‘May his nose soil with dust in whose presence mention is made of me and he does not supplicate for me.’ [Riyāḍ aṣ-Ṣāliḥīn #1400].

So when you hear the Khaṭīb mentioning The Prophet , do you supplicate for him or not? (The opinion) which is clear (to me) is that you listen and this is specific to the Jumuʿah Khuṭbah, and to not be preoccupied with anything else besides listening except if the Khaṭīb is calling towards falsehood, democracy, or elections, (therefore) it is not required for you to listen to them because Allāh said in His Noble Book:

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِذَا نُودِيَ لِلصَّلَوٰةِ مِن يَوۡمِ ٱلۡجُمُعَةِ فَٱسۡعَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِ
O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumuʿah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allāh
– Sūrah al-Jumuʿah, ʾĀyah 9

And some of the Salaf would speak when the Umayyad Khaṭīb cursed the Ahl al-Bayt, they would speak out. So when it was said to them, ‘Why do you speak during the time of the Khuṭbah?’, they said ‘We were not ordered to listen to this.’ And Allāh’s aid is sought.

May Allāh have abundant mercy upon Shaykh Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wādiʿī, reward him for his contributions to the religion of Islām, & allow him to enter Jannah behind The Prophet ﷺ.

All praise is due to Allāh, may His peace & blessings be upon our final Prophet Muḥammad, his family, his companions, & all those who follow him in guidance.
