10 Things from al-Fiṭrah

al-Fiṭrah (الفطرة) is the natural disposition in which Allāh created His servants with. It’s sign is the heart’s innate & natural belief in Allāh & inclination towards all that is good & true, as well as being gravitated to cleansing & purifying one’s self physically.

On the authority of Umm al-Muʾminīn ʿĀʾisha رضي الله عنها who said The Prophet ﷺ said:

Ten things are from al-Fiṭrah:

  1. Trimming the moustache
  2. Moderating the (length of the) beard
  3. (Using) the Siwāk
  4. Inhaling water into the nose (then blowing it out)
  5. Trimming the nails
  6. Washing between the fingers
  7. Plucking under the arms
  8. Shaving the netherhair
  9. Intiqās with water (cleaning one’s private area with water)

The narrator of this Ḥadīth then said:

I forget the tenth except that it may be al-Maḍmaḍah (rinsing the mouth with water).

All praise is due to Allāh, may His peace & blessings be upon our final Prophet Muḥammad, his family, his companions, & all those who follow him in guidance.
