Muḥaddithūn & their contributions to ʿAqīdah

Introduction:

“By Allāh, there is no value in Fiqh or other than it if we lose our ʿAqīdah, waste Tawḥīd, and fall into Shirk. There is no benefit in any branch of science ever!”1

“Among the righteous Salaf who followed the established creed of The Messenger of Allāh , his Companions, and the Tābʿīn were the four A’immah; Imām Abū Ḥanīfah, Imām Mālik, Imām ash-Shāfiʿī, and Imām Aḥmad, as well as other A’immah who defended and revised this creed, explained it, and taught it to their students. The followers of the four A’immah maintained this creed, studied it, and dictated it to their students. They wrote a number of books according to the Companions and the Tābʿīn, and they responded to the false and deviant doctrines, clarifying the falsity and incorrectness of them. This was the way of the A’immah of Ḥadīth, such as the likes of Imām Isḥāq ibn Rāhwayh, Imām al-Bukhārī, Imām Muslim, Imām ibn Khuzaymah, Imām ibn Qutaybah, and the A’immah of Tafsīr such as Imām aṭ-Ṭabarī, Imām ibn Kathīr, Imām al-Baghawī, and others.”2

Treatise:
Muḥaddithūn are usually known only for their collections of Ḥadīth, such as Imām al-Bukhārī & his Ṣaḥīḥ, Imām Muslim & his Ṣaḥīḥ, Imām Abū Dāwūd and his Sunan, and so on. The reality of this matter is that not only were these great scholars A’immah in Ḥadīth, but they were also well-versed in other fields & the various other sciences of Islām. What one may come across during their research of the works of these great A’Immah is that they’ve actually contributed a vast amount to defending the correct creed, establishing the Sunnah, and rejecting Bidʾah; and this list will look into a few of those works, ʾIn shāʾ Allāh.
